Ramathibodi Hospital (Pronounced in Thai: โรงพยาบาลรามาธิบดี) is a university hospital of the Ramathibodi Hospital Faculty of Medicine or Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital which is a faculty within Mahidol University and the fourth oldest medical school in Thailand. It was approved in August 1964 under the Second National Economic and Social Development Plan (1967–1971), when medical demand saw the Thai government seeking to increase the number of doctors and nurses in the country. The faculty received major funding from the Thai government and a supporting grant from the Rockefeller Foundation during its foundation. Construction was started in September 1965 and the faculty opened on May 3, 1969. It is one of Thailand's leading medical schools in terms of teaching, research and clinical services. The hospital is located on Rama VI Road nearby the Chitralada Palace. There are 2 main buildings on campus which serve 5,000 out-patient visits per day with more than 1,000 beds for tertiary in-patient services.

The Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University is one of the two medical schools within Mahidol University. The other one is the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University.

Ramathibodi Hospital is equipped with the most high technology in the world. There are many advanced equipments used in Ramathibodi Hospital such as Cyberknife, 3-Tesla MRI, 320-slice CT, and PET-CT scanners.

Faculty of Medicine

The Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital or just commonly called Rama, Mahidol University (Thai: คณะแพทยศาสตร์โรงพยาบาลรามาธิบดี) is one of the most famous medical schools in Thailand and Southeast Asia. Although it is not very old, but Ramathibodi Hospital has such a high reputation and potential in medical care. It includes a university hospital, a medical school, and a nursing school. Ramathibodi Hospital is generally known as one of the most high-technology hospital in Thailand, only hospital in Thailand containing CyberKnife, 320-slice CT scanner, 3-Tesla MRI scanner, PET-CT scanner, and many mores. Rama is the medical school focused on American style study due to Faculty foundation by The Rockefeller Foundation so Rama medical students are often assertive, and make rational debate. That makes Ramathibodi medical students different from the others.

Ramathibodi Hospital History

Following the Second National Economic and Social Development Plan (1964–1966), the Thai government aimed to increase the number of doctors and nurses in order to meet the needs of the country. In August 1964, the Cabinet approved the plan of setting up a new medical school which would be located around the Phyathai area, opposite the Ministry of Industry. HM King Bhumibol Adulyadej graciously conferred upon the name of this new medical school "Ramathibodi" and laid the foundation stone for the building on December 30, 1965. Four years later, the King came to open the new faculty on May 3, 1969. Apart from the government's fund, the Faculty was financially and academically supported by the Rockefeller Foundation from the United States of America. Since then the Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital has been fully equipped and has provided medical education and services as well as research facilities to the public.

The Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital has two principal buildings to serve 5,000 out-patients per day; first building, Main Building, mainly provides more than 1,000 beds for the tertiary care of complicated and severely ill patients in various specializing departments and units. The second building, Sirikit Building, hosts Queen Sirikit Medical Center (QSMC), serving as a center for advanced projects and centers, namely, bone marrow transplantation project, Advanced Diagnostic Imaging and Imaging-guided Minimal Invasive Therapy Center (AIMC), and Cardiovascular and Metabolic Center (CVMC). It also houses modern operating rooms and intensive care units.

A new building, "Somdech Phra Debaratana Building", which will be completed in 2011, serves as the most excellent service complex for thousands of out-patients. The building will have well-equipped facilities to perform high standards of healthcare in the Southeast Asian region. It will provide 350 beds, 16 operating rooms and 14 Intensive Care Units, and also comprehensive state-of-the-art service centers such as Stem Cell Transplantation, Minimal Invasive Endoscopic Surgery Center, Elderly Care Unit, Child Development Center and Complicated Diseases Service by specialized doctors.
