Health care and cosmetic care for women has come a long way and there are currently a number of options for women interested in strengthening and supporting the lower pelvic region.

Due to modern technology, many cosmetic surgeons and gynocologists now offer women surgical care for the reconstruction of pelvic floor muscles, vaginal wall muscles, the appearance and structure of the vaginal area which may be affected by child birth, surgery, or other medical conditions, and sexuality-enhancing options as well.

Cosmetic surgery has seen an upsurge in effective and safe treatments for women which are minimally invasive, such as rejuvenation. G-spot amplification is another tool being offered to women who wish to discover new facets of their sexuality via a temporary procedure performed on an out-patient basis.

Vaginoplasty Candidates

Ideal candidates for vaginoplasty are individuals who are in overall good health and physical condition, and who have loose, weak, or stretched vaginal muscles. Those with congenital abnormalities or vaginal injuries may also be candidates for vaginoplasty.

Prepare for Vaginal Rejuvenation

Ideally, vaginoplasty surgery should be performed shortly after menstruation. The reason for this is that on the next menstruation you are sure that the tissues are already fully healed. However, in the case where the surgery is already performed and menstruation came before the tissues are completely healed, the patient may feel a bit of discomfort, and the possibility of getting infections becomes higher. Nevertheless, there will be no serious problems that will occur.

On the other hand, there are no specific precautions that the patient needs to do before vaginoplasty surgery. In fact, the patient may still engage in sexual intercourse even until a day prior to the surgical procedure. However, it is good to know that smoking will cause the body’s oxygenation to reduce which in effect may increase the possibility of complications following the surgery. Thus, smoking should be avoided few weeks before the operation.

Vaginal Rejuvenation Overview

A vaginoplasty is a surgical procedure that tightens the vagina. This is done by removing excess vaginal lining and tightening the surrounding soft tissues and muscles.

During delivery of a baby the vagina and surrounding tissues and muscles become stretched. After delivery the vagina may return to a more “normal” size, but it often fails to return to its’ pre pregnancy diameter. Generally, the more vaginal deliveries, the worse the condition gets. Many women will complain of decreased sensation and sexual satisfaction during intercourse. Commonly this is due to a lack of friction. Often their partner may notice a change although he may say nothing. Kegel exercises are often recommended but rarely succeed in restoring vaginal tightness.

Vaginoplasty surgery will tighten the vagina and surrounding tissues yielding a vaginal tightness similar to before the patient had children.

We have also had numerous patients who feel loose although they have never had children. On physical exam they indeed had a vaginal diameter that was greater than expected. Vaginoplasty surgery can help these women as well.

The surgeries are performed in our outpatient and the average length of vaginoplasty procedure is between 1 and 2 hours. An additional hour is spent in our recovery room under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.

Anesthesia

This procedure is performed under conscious sedation usually using a a very short acting medication named Diprovan (propophol). You will be asleep during the procedure and will awaken within minutes after the surgery is completed. Please note that this is different at other facilities where the patient is often awake during the surgical procedure. We feel that our patients are more comfortable using this form of anesthesia. Anesthesia services are included in the cost of the procedure.

Vaginal Rejuvenation Results

Most women who desire a vaginoplasty complain of feeling “loose”. They note decrease friction during intercourse resulting in lower levels of sexual satisfaction and more difficulty in climaxing. Vaginoplasty will increase friction during intercourse. After surgery, the vaginal tightness is similar to the pre-baby days. You will easily feel the difference and so will your partner.

Patients can expect a tighter and stronger vagina after undergoing vaginoplasty. Women with stretched vaginas as a result of pregnancy can rid of excess skin and restore the shape of their pre-pregnancy vagina. Depending on the specific vaginoplasty procedure, women can expect higher levels of sexual stimulation.

Recovery After Vaginoplasty

You will have discomfort at the surgical site for the first few days which will then decrease. Patients are sent home with prescriptions for pain medications and antibiotics. Full healing takes approximately six weeks. All sutures used are absorbable and therefore do not need to be removed.

Most patients return to work within two to five days. Sexual activity can be resumed approximately six weeks after surgery.

Vaginal Rejuvenation Post Op Care

You are going to be sore and swollen after the surgery. You will be able to walk comfortable after a few days and you may even resume sexual activities after a month and a half. You must visit your surgeon regularly in order to ensure everything is healing properly. Remember that healing rates will vary from person to person.

After a vaginoplasty, you do not need to remove the sutures because they are dissolvable anyway. Cosmetic surgeon will use dissolvable sutures during the surgery.

After the vaginoplasty, you should make sure that there is someone to take you home. You will be handicapped from driving and you may not even be able to walk for two to three days. It would be great if someone could accompany you at home during these first few days as well.

Vaginal Rejuvenation Risks

The most common risks of surgery may include bleeding, infection, and scarring, however these are very unusual. Bleeding is controlled at the time of surgery and antibiotics are given postoperatively to prevent infection. With our surgical techniques scarring is very rare.
