Thailand has spectacular festivals that go on year-round
and few countries celebrate them with as much excitement and color. Annual rites and
festivities, marking religious devotion or the passage
of seasons, have long been an integral part of Thai life with the ancient scripture
reflecting this, “Whoever wants to make merry, does
so; whoever wants to laugh, does so."
Dozens of festivities take place each month. However, during the
cool season (November to February), the festivities really pick up.
Each region has its own unique festivals and many follow the lunar
calendar. Because of this, festival dates can vary from year to year.
Local authorities may also change the festival dates to ensure they
do not interfere with each other's schedule.
